Jammie Drive 2020 Direct Donations
We’re excited to introduce an easy way to donate as part of the Jammie Drive this year: help fund a “Children’s Room refresh” for the Midway Shelter, an emergency homeless shelter for women and children in Alameda.
Why Children’s Room Refresh? Alameda’s Midway Shelter uses every inch of indoor space to serve their residents. Your donation will support new paint, washable rugs, furniture, educational materials, and possibly an updated TV/Projector for our multi-age and multi-purpose “Children’s Room” helping babies, kids and teens stay engaged, stay safe, lift their spirits. Revamping this space will be vital to creating a comprehensive, fun, and usable space for the young residents of Midway. Because this space hosts kids of different ages, it needs to be a space where at 10am babies and toddlers can toddle, and babies can crawl, and at 4pm kids can do homework.
The total amount to support this phase of the Children’s Room Refresh is $4,000; we need to raise this amount by 11:59pm 12/24/2020 to help begin this project in the new year. Won’t you help us meet this goal and support the important work of Building Futures for Women and Children, who operate the shelter facilities? Any funds raised beyond the goal amount will be used to purchase additional supplies, activities and educational materials for the for shelter residents.
This donation opportunity is part of the 8th annual Jammie Drive that my team and I organize over the holidays, where donors "adopt" a family at one of the shelters and buy jammies and cozy things for them. We hope you will consider taking part in this important project, which allows the impact of our giving to be felt all year long!

That is why all of Building Futures’ programs and services are aimed at helping their clients overcome their obstacles to permanent housing. Building Futures is proud to provide Alameda County individuals and families in need with Shelter, Domestic Violence Support and Advocacy, and Housing Services. The Midway Shelter was founded in 1989 by the Alameda Homeless Network and the City of Alameda, with the goal of providing 25 beds and a range of services for homeless women and children. Building Futures was chosen to operate the shelter in 2001. The name “Midway” represents the shift in the lives of women and children served, where the cycle of homelessness and domestic violence falls away and a new future can be built.
